    One problem: judging by the photos the definition of non-skinny back then is the same or even slightly thinner than modern society’s definition of a healthy weight. It isn’t just ideals of beauty that has changed; the normative body type has changed as well.

      I agree but instead of people wanting to be a normal body weight now, they strive to be the “skinny” of then. So it’s a bit mixed up now as back then, those that were skinny wanted to be heavier.
